I was also about 5 yrs. old when I first saw Jesus. My grandmother took me to an all black church one evening. We didn't go inside, because she didn't think we would be welcome; but we stood outside and listened to the singing. It was so awesome, I have never forgotten it. (and that was 71 yrs,. ago).
The most meaningful time, was when my husband was dying. I caressed his forehead and told him that I loved him, and that God loved him. The peace and calm that I felt was amazing. Jeseus must have been there.
I see Jesus everyday; in people that I see, in events that happen (or sometimes don't happen), in words that I hear.

Emmaus has led to some amazing stories. Often, they don't seem like "lightening bolt" conversion stories but the transformation and energy they create is very powerful.

I was 5 years old when I first saw Jesus. I was reading Psalm 100 in Sunday School. "Make a joyful noise..."

Jesus came alive for me during my Walk to Emmaus in 1988. Until then I believed but was an armchair Christian. Since then I have tried to walk the walk through service to Him.

On Monday I saw Jesus in Hanna, a seventh grade girl, as she did mission work on an elderly man's home. She smashed her finger and wanted to cry. Yet, she kept working and smiling. I pray that her finger is better today. I pray for all the kids working on Johnny's house.

I am currently praying for Carl George and our church. I pray that, through the guidance of Carl and the Holy Spirit,UUMC can become a more powerful influence for the Kingdom of God.

1) I was five or six years old and the young lady that taught me in Sunday school was patient and compassionate--different than anyone else I'd ever known. I asked her how many times she had been baptized (thinking that's what made people good). She explained to me what baptism really was. Then I wanted to be baptized, tool. I was six when I was baptized. 2) Jump forward 36 years... having been raised in a fundamental church where only church members could receive communion, I attended a retreat where the concept of "ecumenical" was modeled from the moment we walked in the door. All the retreat leaders and facilitators were from different faiths, and all showed reverence and respect for each other. I saw that same depth of compassion throughout the weekend. Then we were all invited to communion (barefoot in the place of worship). It was deeply liberating and catapulted me into a new "transforming" faith walk. Thanks for asking.

#2 The most meaningful time I saw Jesus was on my Emmaus walk in 1994. Even though I was "born" in the church and don't have a "lightening bolt" experience to tell, my Emmaus walk was powerful and life changing.

Will, thank you for bringing the Word to us in such a powerful and meaningful way each week. You give us lots of "meat" to chew on and discuss with friends all week.
